2010’s blow-out cycle marked LED industry investment peak
The pool of tools in fabs in China whose survival is questionable means that overall sales of LEDs will reach their pinnacle almost a decade after sales of manufacturing equipment used to produce them, explains Yole Développement’s Eric Virey.
Though LEDs haven’t yet penetrated general lighting, the market for front end equipment used to make them won’t reach the heights seen over the past two years again. Market analysts Yole Développement say LED producers will spend around $600 million on front end manufacturing equipment in 2012. That’s compared to $1.7 billion in 2011 and $1.9 billion in 2010...
