COWIN has generated more than 15 million euro direct early stage investment opportunities
During the last three years, this Coordination and Support Action has generated more than 15 million euro direct early stage investment opportunities, engaged more than 1200 industrials and attracted more than 60 VCs to consider investing in early stage ICT start-ups.According to Luis Boada, Excelera, COWIN excels at providing start-ups with access to leading European companies. It is a unique and great opportunity offered to young companies.

Under this context, Knowledge4Innovation and COWIN, are organising a Reception and a Breakfast debate in the European Parliament on 17-18 March 2014. The event, hosted by Ms Teresa Riera Madurell, MEP, Rapporteur for Horizon 2020, aims to present the successful activities of COWIN, a concrete action to initiate the move from research to market and to attract private investment in the Smart systems industry.

The aim of this exceptional event is to highlight COWIN’s best practices to pave the way for a successful support to SMEs in the framework of Horizon 2020. The COWIN Action members will share their experience from the smart systems and ICT hardware sector and explain how it can be applied and used in other sectors and at a European scale.

The Breakfast debate in the European Parliament on 18 March will gather Members of the European Parliament (Lambert van Nistelrooij, Christian Ehler), representatives from big corporations (IBM, Deutche Bank), Venture capital firms (Banexi Venture partners, QBIC, Capricorn Venture), RTOs (CSEM, CEA Leti), EC officials (DG RTD, DG Connect), many networks and technology platforms. Speakers include Mr Khalil Rouhana, DG Connect, Roberto Zafalon, ST Microelectronics and Géraldine Andrieux Gustin, Yole Finance. During a special ceremony following the speeches, COWIN representatives will award succesfull young entrepreneurs.

COWIN is an initiative supported by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme successfully supporting the commercial exploitation of Smart Systems technologies funded by the European Commission in smart systems. COWIN works hand-in-hand with technology holders in helping them to find the right processes, partners and resources to bridge the gap from technology to market. COWIN is supporting also entrepreneurs to accelerate the development of their companies. COWIN has set-up an attractive ecosystem to generate value in exploiting EU research projects results.
