Closing the loop
With the COWIN initiative providing promising results, the European Commission aims at reaching new perspectives in the commercialisation of research results in the field of Smart Systems.
In the framework of the next European framework programme, Horizon 2020, the European Commission placed innovation at the heart of its research and development funding policy. "Innovation" will acquire a particular meaning as this programme does not only encompass the research and technological development funding (FP7) but also the competitiveness and innovation topics (the former CIP programme). This would make Horizon 2020 Europe's main financial instrument to implement the innovation Union, the European flagship initiative aiming at securing Europe's global competitiveness.
Running from 2014 to 2020 with €80bn budget, the new framework programme for research and innovation is part of the drive to create new growth and jobs in Europe...
