Eastern winds dominate evolving industry
The highly competitive Chinese wind turbine market the world’s most important, though offshore installations also offer a fast-growing alternative in developed countries, explain Yole Développement analysts Alexandre Avron and Wenbin Ding.
In February 2012, the high stakes being played for in the wind power industry made it a talking point for a former US presidential candidate and China’s president-in-waiting. Senator John Kerry planned to raise a billion-dollar dispute between Devens, Massachusetts, based American Superconductor Corp (AMSC) and Beijing’s Sinovel during Chinese vice-president Xi Jinping’s US visit. While Kerry sought to tackle trade secret theft generally, the political interest underlines the current severity of competition in the wind power industry.
