  • This association has for objective to improve the market position of compound thin films against the strengthening position of crystalline silicon.

Although this term cover both CdTe and CIGS PV materials, the founding members are CdTe players: Abound Solar, Arendi, Calyxo, First Solar, GE Energy and 5N Plus.

Its objective is to strengthen global energy security and help create sustainable energy infrastructures by promoting the social, economic and environmental benefits of thin-film solar photovoltaic technologies.

The activities of the coalition currently focus on:

  • Communicating the specific benefits of increased deployment of thin-film PV for energy security and climate change mitigation
  • Promoting policies that reward thin-film PV companies for investments in sustainable business practices such as resource efficiency and the most advanced, closed-loop recycling schemes, sharing and promoting best practices in environment, health and safety management

PVthin aims to strongly promote efficient and energy-saving production, raw material use and state-of-the-art PV recycling and recovery programs and technologies, and to cooperate with associations and industries supporting this objective.

PVthin is registered as a non-profit international association under Belgian law.
