Topsil enters into framework agreement to supply ultra-pure silicon for Chinese high speed trains, trains and electric cars during delegation visit to China.
Topsil today signed a framework agreement with Chinese company Zhouzhou CSR Times Electric (CSR) to supply 200mm silicon wafers for electric vehicles in China. Topsil’s ultra-pure silicon wafers constitutes a critical part of electric vehicle power components in which it contributes to energy effi-cient supply of current and regulation of speed. The framework agreement is part of the implementation of Topsil’s strategy to strengthen its position on select markets in Asia, including China. The agreement takes effect 2014-2017 and is included in Topsil’s previously announced expectations for 2014. The agreement was signed during Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Den-mark and His Royal Highness The Prince Consort of Denmark State Visit to China.
Today’s agreement concerns Topsil’s new 200 mm ultra-pure silicon wafers. The wa-fers constitute a critical part of the manufacture of high voltage components and will be used in CSR´s recently established 200mm production line for power components aimed at electric vehicles, such as high speed trains, trains, electric and hybrid cars.
The build-up of new electric high speed train lines is key to obtaining an efficient transport infrastructure development of China while enabling a more efficient utilisa-tion of energy. Furthermore, more widespread use of electric vehicles including elec-tric and hybrid cars will contribute to decreasing the CO2 level. Recently, China has announced its plans to double the domestic number of high speed trains in the years to come.
”Ultra-pure silicon constitute a critical part of electric high voltage components” says Topsil CEO, Kalle Hvidt Nielsen. ”In respect of transport, it contributes to regulation of speed, amongst others. Moreover, silicon safeguards energy efficient transfer of elec-tricity from overhead wires to high speed trains or from the charging station to an electric car”.
”China is one of our geographical focus markets. This market is very attractive as sub-stantial energy infrastructure and transport investments are expected in the years to come”, he adds. ”China is in need of high performance silicon. We supply unique tech-nology that contributes to the build-up of a modern, reliable and more environmental-ly friendly transport infrastructure in China”.
CSR is one of the leading suppliers of electrical trains in China. CSR has made signifi-cant investments in power semiconductor technology including the first 200mm pro-duction line in China. Today’s signature closes a framework agreement between Topsil and CSR for the next four years and is included in Topsil’s previously announced ex-pectations for 2014.
