According to Yole Développement, 2012 was seen by many as a turnkey year for consumer combo sensors, with high volume adoption in platforms such as Samsung Galaxy S smartphones. 9-axis solutions are being introduced to the market and innovative solutions should follow: with integration of pressure sensing, processing units, RF capabilities… The combo sensor market is estimated to be at $446M in 2013, growing to $1.97B in 2018. From 21% in 2013, this will represent a 66% part of the global inertial consumer market in 2018.
STMicroelectronics is global leader in the inertial consumer sensor market with 42% market shares. Only InvenSense and Bosch Sensortec are able to sustain the competition today. It is key to be able to control the different technologies or to establish the right partnerships to sell a large range of combo solutions.
During the webcast we’ll review 3 competing 9 axis IMU detailing technology and manufacturing cost from Bosch, Invensense, and STMicroelectronics. We’ll detail who owns what in term of patent unveiling what the future could look like.
