MEMS markets have always be driven by innovation. Emerging MEMS markets have the potential to make up 10% of the total market in 2015 adding more than $2B to the overall MEMS market by that time. 

Every year, new MEMS developments are coming out. While not all of them find commercial success, the constant stream shows there are plenty of applications where MEMS devices could be used. We have identified more than 30 startups involved in new developments.  Among the emerging MEMS devices, microbolometers, digital compasses & oscillators represent the most promising markets. Microbolometers are achieving lower cost and increased integration which will drive growth, MEMS oscillators are finally ready to take a significant share of the timing market and digital compass is already soaring in 2010.  In addition to these devices, there are other new MEMS that have are close to crossing the gap from R&D to commercialization.
