Smartphone-use lens module maker Largan Precision has taken a major step in expanding capacity in Taiwan by remitting back about NT$11 billion (US$367 million) in income from selling its Suzhou, China plant.
It disposed the Suzhou plant at year-end 2019, and the income will be used to support factory construction Taiwan, according to industry sources.
Largan has concentrated R&D and production in Taiwan, the sources said, adding that the company now has one factory in southern China, and another 13 in central Taiwan.
Largan has plans to build three more plants in Taiwan in the next few years, the sources said.
Largan has begun shipping 7P and 8P lens modules and finished development of 9P ones, the sources noted, adding that it will begin shipping free-form lens modules in second-half 2020
