Volkswagen AG, BMW AG and Daimler AG-owned Mercedes-Benz have halted sales of some of their plug-in hybrid cars in Europe in the wake of new emissions regulations, Automotive News reported. The new Worldwide Harmonized Light Duty Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) regime, which went into effect on Sept. 1, gives higher CO2 readings than the old New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) system, pushing vehicles into a higher tax bracket.

French carmaker PSA Group will build electrified gearboxes in eastern France for a new generation of hybrid vehicles, in an 80 million euro ($94 million) investment with supplier Punch Powertrain, a union official. The double-clutch gearbox will be deployed in so-called "mild" hybrids that combine a 48-volt electric motor with a combustion engine, the Peugeot maker has previously said.

ON Semiconductor, and Fujitsu Semiconductor announced that ON Semiconductor will complete the incremental 20 percent share purchase of Aizu Fujitsu Semiconductor Manufacturing Limited, Fujitsu’s 8-inch wafer fab in Aizu-Wakamatsu, on Oct. 1, 2018. ON Semiconductor will hold a 60 percent majority ownership in the joint venture, and a brand transition will occur following the Oct. 1 close. Consequently, the company name of Aizu Fujitsu Semiconductor Manufacturing will transition to ON Semiconductor Aizu on Oct. 1, 2018.

Groupe Renault, the European actor in electric mobility, announced the launch of Advanced Battery Storage, a stationary storage system for energy developed exclusively from EV batteries. It will have a storage capacity of at least 60 MWh, making it the biggest system of its kind ever built in Europe. The first facilities will be developed in early 2019 on three sites in France and Germany: at the Renault plants in Douai and Cléon and at a former coal-fired plant in North Rhine-Westphalia.
