Active/passive optical filter maker Apogee Optocom has reported robust earnings growth for the first quarter of 2020, bolstered by increased shipments of its passive optical filters and an improvement of its products mix, according to company sources.
It saw net profit surge 109.6% on year to NT$36.49 million (US$1.22 million) in the first quarter, in which consolidated revenues grew 29.84% to NT$165 million.
Gross margin for the January-March period stood at 52.43%, up 4.76pp from a year earlier, the company noted.
Demand for passive optical filters such as WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) filters has been gaining momentum recently, mainly pushed by installments of 5G base stations in China, Korea, the US and other markets, said the sources, adding that demand for related filter products from the datacenter sector has also been steady.
With the ramp-up in orders, the company also saw its April revenues shoot up 50.19% on year to NT$57.79 million, although the monthly figures still showed a sequential 10.35% decline.
